In autumn 2021, Marjo Niemi brings a new Finnish work to the KokoTeatteri stage. The play Normi explores norms of gender and sexuality. Its four actors play forty roles; the performance is unrestrained and extravagant like nature itself. Norms speed up the behaviour of herds, and speed benefits many. It is safe to blend into norms. But what if you cannot? Not all feelings arise by themselves within you, but where the norms are defined. Performances 29 October – 17 December 2021

The play is a refreshing change of perspective that eases unfocused fatigue and pain: once again you stepped over an invisible line and got it wrong, even though you were only standing still. What should you be like, according to them? What is it like? How do you think life should go? How is it going? “It is safe to blend into norms.
