Koko Jazz Club operates in shared premises with KokoTeatteri and is committed to the

safer space principles created by KokoTeatteri.

KokoTeatteri's safer space principles:

  • Our staff intervenes in inappropriate behaviour. We do not accept racism, discrimination or bad behaviour based on gender or sexuality, ableism, mockery, hate, ridicule, embarrassing others or harassment.

  • We respect everyone's boundaries, both physical and psychological, privacy and pronouns. Our staff does not make assumptions about anyone's gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, socioeconomic background or other private matters.

  • We promise to support you and you can always inform the staff about bad behaviour or other problems.

  • We apologise and take responsibility, if we act wrongly.

  • We keep in touch with customers and inform them, for example, of changes. We always inform ticket buyers in advance if a performance is, for example, recorded. We also aim to film our recordings so that as little of the audience as possible is visible. No one is filmed by us without notice.

  • Our events have accessible entry for those who need it.

  • With us, you can be yourself! KokoTeatteri has no dress code, for example, and you can always come to us just as you are.

  • We educate ourselves and update these safer space principles. We appreciate your feedback on how we can improve our events in the future. Contact us with a low threshold if you have comments or questions.

What we expect from everyone working, visiting, attending and performing in our premises

  • Do not assume based on appearance or behaviour. Do not make assumptions about anyone's sexuality, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, values, socioeconomic background, health or ability. Be aware of your own assumptions, speak from your own experience, not on behalf of others. Respect everyone's right to self-determination.

  • Do not mock, ridicule, demean, push aside or embarrass anyone with your words, behaviour or actions. Refrain from judging appearances, gossiping and upholding stereotypes.

  • Give space. Try to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to take part in the conversation. Do not steamroll others' opinions and give others a turn to speak. Also respect others' privacy and handle sensitive topics with respect. Respect and listen to others. Try to be open to new perspectives.

  • Listen and learn. Receive new topics, people and perspectives with an open mind. Treat every matter and situation you encounter as an opportunity to learn and grow. It is allowed and good to say that you do not know or are not familiar with something, or that you are not sure how to act in our theatre. You can always ask for more information.

  • Respect others' privacy. If you take photos or videos that you want to publish, make sure that this is okay with everyone visible in the picture.

  • Apologise, if you have intentionally or unintentionally hurt others.
